Petroleum Storage Tank Compliance Seminar, Austin
December 11th

The Eighth “PST Compliance and Assistance Seminar” is going on at the Roundrock Marriott all day December 11th, Tuesday.  This is organized by TCEQ and sponsored by the Texas Association of Storage Tank Professionals and Industry Council on the Environment.  It is a great seminar for anyone who manages UST’s or AST’s, and gets you face-to-face with the industry experts on PST systems, equipment, leak detection, corrosion protection, SPCC Plans, regulations, and so on.  TCEQ sends a lot of staff people for their own training, and provides some very good presenters in areas like emergency response, insurance and financial assurance, and registration/self-certification of tank systems.

Chapman Engineering will be exhibiting there, as it does each year.  We look forward to seeing many of you.

UST Leak Detection

We have a client who’s got suction systems and some long piping runs.  What do you do for leak detection on those lines?  What do the rules say?

Suction lines either have to be tightness-tested once every three years, or they have to be monitored monthly by one of the approved methods:  vapor monitoring; ground-water monitoring; interstitial monitoring (double-walled pipe or a lined pipe trench with monitoring points); or SIR.

The tightness test for a suction system means you will do tightness testing of each tank and line all together.  This can be expensive – may be an overfill method, most commonly.

And the only other option is monthly monitoring, as we do with Fuel Finder™.
